BLOOMINGTON JEFFERSON JAGUARS BOYS SWIM & DIVE
Information
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Who can join the swim and dive team?
If you are in grades 7-12, you are eligible to join the team, no matter your experience level!
If your child is in middle school and you are wondering if being on a high school team is "normal" for a 7th or an 8th grader, please understand that it is. Our team is incredibly inclusive - middle schoolers will not feel alone or too young to be on the team!
Do I need to know how to swim or dive?
No! While we are a competitive swimming and diving team, no experience is necessary to join. Plus, by joining as a seventh or eighth grader with no previous experience, you will set yourself up for success in high school!
What strokes do the swimmers use in competition?
Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly, and Breaststroke

Why should I join the Bloomington Jefferson Boys Swim and Dive Team?
The Bloomington Jefferson Swim and Dive Team is open to athletes of all sizes and abilities, and we compete as both a team and as individuals, so success is measured on more than just wins and losses. We do not hold tryouts and we do not make cuts. Everyone gets to compete - there’s no riding the bench in swimming. Additionally, you will be a member of a supportive team that only wants you to have fun and succeed in whatever goal you set for yourself!
What equipment do I need to participate?
Swimmers and divers will need to have a swimsuit for practices. Please purchase your suit prior to the first day of practice.
Practice suits made of polyester tend to last longer. They are a little more expensive but well worth the cost as other swimsuits tend to wear out from the chlorine a little bit faster.
As a note, suits tend to loosen up from use over time. You want the suit to be tight when purchased.
Swimsuits can be purchased on Amazon, or at places like Dick's Sporting Goods, Scheels, and Elsmore Aquatics.
A team swimsuit for meets as well as a team swim cap will be purchased for the swimmer and provided to the swimmer at the beginning of the season.
Swimmers should also bring a water bottle, a pair of goggles, towel, and a practice swim cap (optional) to practice each day.
How do I register for the Bloomington Jefferson Boys Swim and Dive team?
Boys Swim and Dive is a winter sport. Registration for the 2024-2025 season opens on September 27 and closes at 12pm on November 25.
There are two registrations required:
Bloomington Jefferson Boys Swim and Dive Booster Club Registration (found on this site)
Each swimmer must have a current sports physical in the system prior to registration. Sports physicals are good for three years. Please turn in the MSHSL Medical Eligibility Form into the Jefferson Activities Office. Additional information can be found on the Bloomington Jefferson Activities and Athletics website.
How much does it cost to participate?
Bloomington Jefferson Activities and Athletics Registration = $225.00
Bloomington Jefferson Boys Swim and Dive Booster Club Registration = $100.00 ($50.00 for 1st year 7th or 8th graders)
The Booster Club registration fee covers a team swimsuit, towel (first year), swim cap, pool equipment, training equipment, transportation, and the year end banquet for the swimmer.
Additional required expenses include a practice suit and goggles, which is about another $60 total. Other costs are optional including apparel, picture orders, etc. Our booster club does a fantastic job of supporting the team and our athletes and parents do their best to fundraise and keep the costs of swimming and diving to a minimum.
Fee reduction programs are available:

As a parent/guardian, how can I get involved?
Excellent question...we could NOT do anything of this without your help! There are lots of ways to get involved. We currently have open positions on the Booster Club Board, monthly fundraising events, as well as volunteer opportunities at every home meet.
FUN FACT: for every home meet we need a minimum of 22 volunteers
Just like your swimmers, no previous experience is needed. We will train you on everything you need to know.
Please see the Volunteer page for more details. Or reach out to the Booster Club Board at president@jeffersonboysswimdive.org or communications@jeffersonboysswimdive.org.
